Our workshops are always commended for our approach towards the otherwise ‘taboo and uncomfortable’ topic of suicide prevention.
Honest and open communication is vital in encouraging everyone to give ‘Suicide Prevention’ the attention it deserves.
Ø Suicide is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in India
Ø Nearly 20% of all suicides worldwide occur in India
Ø 0.5 Million ( 5 Lakh) Suicides worldwide occur in India
Ø Every hour 57 people die of suicide, almost 1 every minute
Ø 70% of the suicides are committed by the people under 30 years of age
Ø Every hour almost 5 students commit suicide in India
Ø Students as young as 8 years commit suicide
Ø 80% of the suicide victims are literates
Ø More Indian men die of suicides than women
Ø High income groups are more prone to suicide
Ø The state of Maharashtra has the highest student suicide rate in India
Ø Suicide is not a BIG PROBLEM?
Ø Do not talk about suicide; people will get encouraged by it
Ø Do not talk to kids about suicide
Ø My child will never do this, he/she is brave
Ø Women are victims of suicide more than men
Ø People who talk about suicide won’t really do it
Ø People who attempt suicide are weak people
Ø People with suicidal tendencies can only be helped by professionals
Ø A layman cannot help to stop suicide
Ø Educated people do not commit suicide
Ø If I talk to a suicidal person I will also get suicidal thoughts
Jeevan Mein Asha Hai ( There is Hope in Life) is a initiative of Kinging Youth Foundation. The Core Vision of this program is to have a suicide-free world by 31st December 2030. We are on a mission to raise 90 million (9 crore)
volunteers - Jeevan Rakshaks (Life Saviours) to make the world suicide
free by 2030. To achieve the same we are conducting 900,000 (9 lakh)
workshops in India and beyond with 430 workshops every day globally & 72 workshops everyday in India in the span of next 7 years.
Ø Creating awareness on suicide
Ø Learn LIFE SAVING SKILLS on recognizing suicidal symptoms
Ø Be the first line of defense against suicide by counseling the individual/s at the first stage
Ø Refer them to an expert for further professional treatment
(Sleeping for long hours or no sleep)
(a). Not taking heed on his/her appearance
(b). He/ She is suddenly either talking too fast or too slow
All the symptoms mentioned above, qualify to be symptoms if
(1) These signs are atypical of the individual’s normal behaviour
(2) They exhibit at least 4-5 of the above symptoms, except for symptom no. 10.
